CDS held its first workshop for Life Integrators Coalition partner organisations with technical assistance from the National Programme for Tuberculosis Control and Chest Diseases (NPTCCD) as part of its program activities for the year 2024. We were delighted to have the National Director, Dr. Pramitha Shanthilatha, Dr. Mizaya, Dr. Anuradha, and Dr. Shyam, with us, who provided the technical background and information on TB.
CDS developed a training module in Sinhala and Tamil with technical support from Doctors of the National Programme for Tuberculosis Control and Chest Diseases (NPTCCD). This module was transformed into a guidebook, which was distributed to civil society participants for use in their districts and communities.
It was very enlightening to note that the migrant worker population and their immediate families are a vulnerable group that we all must acknowledge and support in our work on the ground, especially at a time when over 9,000 infections are recorded annually and over 700 recorded deaths in 2023 alone.
We firmly believe that a community response in support of the national program will decrease infection rates throughout the country. We aim to leverage our network’s strength to assist the National Programme for Tuberculosis Control and Chest Diseases (NPTCCD) in achieving its short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals. Seventeen organizations benefited from the workshop.
